Record Capture Setup

A good recording starts with the right workspace, device inputs, browser permissions, and stable network conditions.

Before starting

Confirm the customer is signed in to the expected account and workspace. If the recording belongs to another workspace, it may not appear in the current library even when upload succeeds.

Input checks

Ask the customer to confirm the intended screen or window, camera, and microphone before pressing start. If the wrong camera or microphone is selected, stop the recording, change the device selection or browser permission, and start a new recording.

Multiple screens and layouts

Record can combine up to three user-approved screens, windows, or tabs. Add each source through the browser picker, choose Auto, Grid, Focus, Filmstrip, or Side by side, and select the primary source. The browser intentionally requires approval for each source and does not let Clientana enumerate monitors automatically.

Camera presentation

Choose a corner and Small, Medium, or Large as a quick starting point. The camera can then be dragged anywhere inside the preview and resized from its handle. Rectangle, Rounded, Circle, and Squircle shapes are available, with 1×–3× crop, mirror, and supported background effects. The camera stays bounded inside the final recording frame.

Live presentation tools

The stage toolbar includes pointer, pen, highlighter, arrow, spotlight, and text. Undo and clear affect live annotations. Cursor emphasis adds a halo and click ring; zoom can be set manually or triggered temporarily on click. These effects are part of the compiled video. They respond to activity over the Record stage; a browser page cannot globally inspect or draw over other applications.

After recording

Open the editor to trim the beginning/end and add timed pen, highlighter, arrow, spotlight, or text annotations. Local captures keep an IndexedDB recovery copy. Workspace recordings can save a private editor project and export the result as a new private workspace recording without replacing the source.

Browser readiness

Desktop Chrome, Edge, and other modern desktop browsers generally provide the most reliable screen capture behavior. Browser-level prompts can block capture until the user explicitly allows the screen, window, tab, camera, or microphone.

Network readiness

Recordings need time to upload after capture. Customers should avoid closing the tab, switching networks, or putting the computer to sleep before upload is complete.

Support triage prompts

Useful first questions are: which workspace was active, which browser was used, which input failed, whether the browser permission prompt appeared, and whether the issue happened before recording, during recording, or after finishing.
